Forum now open! 08/15/2008

The BrevityThing forum is now up and about!  For the first couple of weeks there'll be a kind of bedding-in period, as we get our heads around what all the switches and levers do.  We're looking for your input as regards form and function of the thing, so please chip in!  The forum pages are here!

Simple as that!  Congratulations to Jennifer Domingo for her winning flash fiction piece!

In other news, a fully-fledged BrevityThing forum should be up and running in the next few days; a space for writers to discuss (amongst other things) the pros and cons of being an author, whether as a hobbyist, a student, a professional or as someone with talent and drive but who just can't seem to get that break...

July's stories have been uploaded to the site!  Please check them out and express your preferences through the poll, the comments box provided, and/or through blog comments.  And shout if something's not working properly.   The competition winner will be announced on 10th August (probably late in the evening UK time, so no need to get up early).

Details of the competition for August and September are also online now, so have a look, and get writing!

The next competition will run over two months, with a 30th September deadline.  This will allow a short summer break, as well as a bit of a redesign.

BrevityThing is becoming more popular, and the site's receiving more hits than was initially expected, so we're due for an expansion.

Hopefully this will mean better and more varied features and improved functionality of the site.  We're acutely aware that the site isn't wildly interactive in the middle of the month, so we're looking to address that by introducing a forum for writing-related discussion, for example.

As ever, the site is run for writers, so we're looking for involvement; not just in terms of competition entries, but in other site content too.  There will be much more about the nuts and bolts of writing added to the site - we want BrevityThing to be the top dog when it comes to flash fiction!  Alas, there's no cash as yet (we run at a slight loss each month) but you never know for the future.  Basically, as soon as we see some return, so will those who've helped along the way.

If nothing else, you can help by contributing actively, by reading and commenting, by the occasional click on the adverts (don't feel as though you have to buy anything though!), and by continuing to write!

A bumper crop of flash fiction for July, so thanks to all who've contributed this month.  The stories should be uploaded by late this evening (1st July), internet willing.

We're having a little break, so the next competition will run over two months.  In the meantime, keep writing, and if you've got any site development suggestions in terms of content and approach, we'd love to hear from you!

We've seen entries cascading into BrevityThing Mansions, which is lovely!  Keep it up.  And if you're in the UK, enjoy the sun while it lasts!

The judging process is underway here at BrevityThing Mansions (expect something up on the site on the evening of the 10th - Thursday).  We're also seeing some early entries for July's TRUST-themed competition, which is really encouraging.

Thanks for the continued support and ise of the site., and please email in with suggestions for improvement and development.  We're kinda conscious that a monthly turnaround for themed comps makes the site a little static in the interim, so we're open to ideas!

June's stories are now loaded onto the site, and the judging process is underway.  Don;t forget to vote to show your own preferences - the feedback is useful to us and to the featured writers!

Thanks to those who've already entered June's competition!  As for the rest of you out there in flash fiction land, get to it!

There's a new section on flash fiction that's been added too.  Think of this as some introductory material on what flash fiction is, and  some basics on how to write it.   We'll develop this over time, but there's a few tips for starters.

So May's material is up and posted.  Go and have a read!  Sites like this depend on material from you, the writing public.  So put fingers to keyboard for June!

Be honest.
