Go, Mary! 05/22/2008

And 'hi' to regular contributor Mary Marland, who emailed in to say she'd won the April short story completion over at http://www.globalshortstories.net (and with it the £100 prize).  Well done!

Phew.  First of May's GAMES-related flash fiction submissions are rolling in.  So thanks to the few of you who've sent something in.  And to the rest of you that haven't - why the flip not?

Site rethink... 04/17/2008

We've been scratching our heads a little over at Brevity HQ, and we're going to roll out a revised site (pretty much the same clunky design) with a re-focus exclusively onto flash fiction.  The competitions will stay free-to-enter and we like the polling / comments feature, so they're staying.  Also, we're going to up the tempo a bit.  Monthly deadlines are simply too infrequent to encourage both returning readers and lots of fresh fiction.   So that's going to be addressed too.  There'll be a kinda grand re-unveiling at the end of the month, and we'll keep the current HOPE call for submissions as-is.

And the polling feature's been added...

Writers' News 04/03/2008

And a quick 'thanks very much' to Writers News  (the subscriber-only supplement from the good folks at Writing Magazine) who've given us a mention in this month's issue!

Another month, and another fresh writing competition is detailed over at the competitions page.   March's flash fiction will be uploaded by the weekend, and with it the previously-mentioned voting system.  We spoil you, we really do...

Thanks to those who've sent in entries for March's competition.  There's a day left, so get them in!

From March onwards, we'll set up online polling for the competitions.  That way, competition winners will be decided by you, the brevitything public, rather than by the editorial team.  Which is usually just me!  We'll upload March's stories and unveil April's topic very soon, and set up the polling system for the judging of the BATTLE-themed entries.

More tinkering 03/25/2008

Behold the new, improved links page.

Some work's gone into improving the site look and functionality, and to making some additions to the links pages.  Shout if there are any issues!

Phew.  That took a little longer than anticipated.  Apologies for that.  Go have a read, why don't ya?  And while you're at it, see what we're after for March.
